Q1. You are preparing to roll out a new teacher leader initiative in your school. You have identified your strong teacher leaders and have convened them to give them their charge. Here is what you say:

Option A: I am so excited for you to take on important leadership roles in the life of the school. This committee will be responsible for disseminating key information on school values. I have identified monthly topics for bulletin boards aligned to our school values. You get to decide what colors to use and divvy up responsibility for putting up, maintaining, and taking down the boards each month. I am attaching a calendar of what I used last year along with photos that you can copy. But I know you'll be so creative and can't wait to see you exercise your leadership. Thank you for your important service to the school community!

Option B: I am so excited for you to take on important leadership roles in the life of the school. I hope you will work with me to analyze student work looking for schoolwide trends and patterns. The job of your committee will be to develop and implement a plan to address the most pressing student learning needs we identify. I will be an advisor and supporter of your team, offering suggestions as appropriate. We will meet every other week on Wednesdays before school for 20 minutes as well as on professional learning days to monitor progress. Tell me a little about your hopes and concerns for this work? What kinds of ideas are already bubbling up for you? What support do you feel you will need from me to be successful as a team?

Option C: I am so excited for you to take on important leadership roles in the life of the school. You will be especially important to our successful implementation of new protocols for professional learning communities this year. Ms. Smith and Mr. Johnson will be leading the PLCs and will be reporting progress back to me. Ms. Smith and Mr. Johnson have received training on PLC leadership and will be facilitating all PLC sessions. They have already identified goals and measures for each PLC to work on and when you attend your first meeting, you will just love the protocol they have developed for us.
